Venomous: The Sequel (BitterSweet Trilogy Book 1)

I didn't like her in the beginning but she improved greatly. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review. I had not read Jen Windrow before, and a chance to read an ARC of this book for a fair review came to me thru another author's newsletter. The blurb sounded interesting to me, love me all troupes of PNR I'd rate it a solid 3.
Let me explain by ticking off the vitals: This story lies mainly in the dark under belly of a Ti I had not read Jen Windrow before, and a chance to read an ARC of this book for a fair review came to me thru another author's newsletter. This story lies mainly in the dark under belly of a Tijuana drug tunnel. Yeah, I didn't see that one coming LOL. Want to point out, IMHO, that there are a lot of stereotypes for drug users, prostitutes, general sucky,mean-evil abusive people that almost, almost, are a bit off putting.
Lots of bad things happen to our heroine, Gia. Let's just say this story might have triggers for readers for subjects like, abuse any kind But was it a romance? But, and not to give too much of the story away, we really don't "see" our hero, Christopher, and our victim, err, heroine, Gia, in anything more than a few kisses and a grope or two. But there is love. Their love is what is the driving force behind the entire plot.
I don't know if I liked Gia at first or Christopher mid-way , but by the end of the read I was totally invested in their outcome. I did not read book one in the series, Gia's brother Grayson, Struck by Eros. So it wasn't till the epilogue and the snippet of book 1 in the back that some of the missing pieces about the Adler and Anasta families made more sense where Gia and Christopher get their unique abilities from.
I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way. Gia Adler is marrying her soul mate but as they take the wedding photos her ex-boyfriend gives her the kind of present of nightmares as he shoots her new husband in the chest and puts him into a coma. As she takes a short break to clear her head life gets so much worse for Gia when she is abducted and taken into an underground world which is the equivalent of hell with drugs, death prostitution and the promise that she i I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.
As she takes a short break to clear her head life gets so much worse for Gia when she is abducted and taken into an underground world which is the equivalent of hell with drugs, death prostitution and the promise that she is not coming back. The spirit of her husband tries to help her and guide her out, but in order to come out she has to somehow handle the demons of her ex and the past. I loved this story - it was well written and had lots of twists and turns in order to keep you wondering what would happen next. I loved the idea of the spirit of her comatose husband helping her and all the secrets and dirty laundry from the past being dragged up and resolved.
I opened this book expecting a fairly straight-forward romance with some paranormal elements, much like the first book in the series. What I discovered was an unexpectedly gripping psychological thriller that held me in thrall until the very last words. The myth behind this is darker, so obviously the story itself will be too. The author has handled her subject matter with compassion, tact, and skill while telling this story of survival. It makes them very human and easy to relate to.
This was a really intriguing story. Starts off in one direction and before you know it the darkness has descended into the brinks of Hell on earth. Never would Gia have believed this is where she would be. Through sheer will, a hypnotic voice, a spirit, and so much more she will have to use everything in her power to make it through. Lots going on in this fast paced read which starts off with a bang and continues to deliver. My first read of this author and I really enjoyed the way she delivered This was a really intriguing story. My first read of this author and I really enjoyed the way she delivered the story.

RJ is coming after Gia; she is the reason he has spent 5-years in prison and he is out to exact revenge, but the bullet meant for her strikes Christopher instead. In a moment of rebellion aimed at Christopher six years earlier, Gia started up a relationship with RJ, who ended up branding her as his. Even though Christopher is in a coma, he appears to Gia in phantom form, offering her solace and telling her she has to fight her way through hell to save them. Kidnapped by RJ, he tells Gia she has a debt to pay.
Gia has hatred for the man who not only tried to destroy her once, but now has a second chance, but Christopher is with her during the whole journey; she only has to sing and he will appear. It is not clear why they are both there in the tunnels, only that they have to continue forward in order to get out and save each other. Gia has to fight for her life and giving up is not an option; no matter what happens, no matter what RJ does, she is to carry on and never look back.
On their extraordinary journey, RJ tells Gia about Christopher and himself and their inexplicable family relationship to each other; what Gia learns is that all this time she has been an unwilling pawn. Will RJ ever be able to atone for his past mistakes and regrets? A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion. Omg, wow this book had me in tears several times. What goes around comes around and if it isn't nipped in the bud it will just continue on with the cycle.
I loved the HEA ending of this book and can not wait to see what is in store for the next book of the series. I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it. I was enchanted from the first chapter to the last! Gia's journey is enchanting and captivating - an all around five star read!! Every new turn and twist within the tunnels will leave you tormented and hopeful at the same time.
I went into this book kind of blin I was enchanted from the first chapter to the last! I went into this book kind of blind - meaning I had not read the blurb, nor the reviews - It was just up next on my review list. Had I taken the time I would have known this was book 2 in the series and book 1 would have filled in all those missing details - though it was fun reading the surprise at the end ; Definitely worth your morning coffee!

True beauty doesn't just happen A person must fight their way through the worst. Then they grow and blossom. True depth of character is born of that strife. For survivors have true appreciation of what is valuable. Understanding and ability to look beyond themselves. Overcoming being victimized by actions of long ago. These things create a truly beautiful individual.
An Interesting story starts out with a wedding and a girl who is really into herself and is marrying her prince charming. Only her past comes to the wedding as well, the man that literally left his mark on her, as in scars that will never go away. You can really see the Greek myth in this book, it reminded me of a Greek myth where a guy went into the underworld and brought his lover back.

Great read, part of a series that I am hoping to read the rest of. I also want to say, that I am voluntarily giving my review and was in no way compensated for reading this book. This book was VERY interesting. It took a normal wedding and turned it into an over-the-top dramatic for the wrong reasons event that was just the beginning of a journey through Hell.
Gia and Christopher had just gotten married when it all comes a'tumblin' down. Her ex, RJ, is out of prison and apparently back for revenge I can't express much about this story without giving out spoilers galore, but what I can say is that a twist and turn reveals more This book was VERY interesting. MM Shelley Guest Post: Her stories always deliver the emotions I need in order to fall in love with her characters - for them to stay with me long after I close the book. Bittersweet Always has this in spades. Up til now Jared has been my favourite character from this author.
He's as infuriating as he is endearing and it just made me love him more. A complex character that had me yelling at my Ipad one minute and smiling a dopey smile the next. He's haunted by demons that not everyone will understand and that makes him not your average romance alpha - I for one, am soooo okay with that. My love for Pippa started in Suddenly Forbidden when we realised she was the kind of fierce friend every woman needs in their life.
In this book you still get her humour and her wit, but you also see her depth and her strength. She's tested and she proves exactly who she is and what she will and will not tolerate. This story explores difficult subjects not often covered in romance and it does it beautifully. What happens when the person you love, doesn't know how to love themselves? Pippa and Toby together are everything you want in a NA romance - they're passionate, hilarious and heartbreaking. This one's not your usual college story and that makes me very happy. I love stories that don't follow the formula. Not all love stories are easy.
Some don't work out the way you expect. And some work out better than you could ever imagine. I cannot wait for everyone to meet these two - I have so much love for this extraordinary, brave, smart and funny read. Apr 21, Paige rated it it was amazing Shelves: Meeting these two characters in Suddenly Forbidden, I knew their story would be emotional and it so was. Even more so because Ms Ella Feilds know exactly which emotions to pull and which emotions to push at exactly the right time.
Toby and Pippa fought for each other, they fought for themselves, and they fought for love. And it was beautiful. The author tackled a tough subject and she did it so well that I felt like I was Toby. And Pippa was exactly what he needed what I needed and their story really transcended the pages and became real. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book.

From the outside, Toby Hawthorne looks like any college jock: Inside him is a different story. Beyond his fun and beautiful exterior is a battle that he fights everyday without knowing if one day he'll ever win. Ella Fields writes stories that crush and mend you. She creates heroes that you will love but will also hate. And she pens heroines you will look up Growing up, Pippa James knows it so well how a mental instability can affect a persons life and the people around him.
And she pens heroines you will look up to because of their strength and kindheartedness. This author has that power to draw out so much emotion in your heart. You won't even notice she's breaking you because she does it so slowly and so good! Bittersweet is a New Adult romance, yes, but the author was able to blend it with a topic that everyone needs some understanding of: This book will open your hearts and your minds to the challenges of having a mental illness and loving a person who has it.
The barricades of my heart weren't ready when Ella shot emotional missiles one after the other. But before you become afraid to read this, I'm telling you now This might be an emotional rollecoaster of a book but it has one of the most beautiful HEAs. And Toby, I swear that he will make you love him so much you will forget he's broken. I was so excited for Toby's book when it was announced, I knew he had a story and a half to tell and did he ever!
Ella Fields sure took on a difficult subject with mental illness and she did it with sensitivity and respect without trying to lighten or downplay Toby's issues or miraculously "healing" him. Pippa's a fabulous heroine and just what Toby needed. I've read so many NA books where the characters irritate the hell out of me with the juvenile drama, not so in Bittersweet Always. Not even t I was so excited for Toby's book when it was announced, I knew he had a story and a half to tell and did he ever!
Not even the seperation bothered me, it was essential and pivotal to the story for Toby to be able to heal and grow. Aug 07, Karla rated it it was amazing. This series is getting better and better! I thought book one was the packed with angst, well, seems Ella Fields had more in store for us. What a story it was! The depth of this book went beyond especially knowing the serious issues Toby was dealing with.
I thought Pipp 4. I thought Pippa was brave for taking a relationship with Toby after the history she had with her dad. Pippa felt hard for Toby and she tried to be understanding and supportive as much as she was able. Toby, I did have my moments where I was mad at him, but not for long because what he was dealing with was not easy. I was so proud of him when he finally won the battle against himself and seek the help he need it. View all 15 comments.
Apr 28, Vanessa nessreads rated it it was amazing. Toby Hawthorne has cemented himself deep down to the narrow of my bones as one of my most favorite Hero's ever written. There are absolutely no amount of words I can write to do this book justice. My words will pale in comparison to Ella's. My gosh her words.
They weave and seep and live in the depths of all of you. You feel every single emotion when reading her books. Her stories, they take a hold of you that there's nothing you can do but be consumed. Reading Ella's words is an experience. It's intoxicating and it'll leave you wanting more. Bittersweet Always is a book packed to the brim with emotions.

It'll have you smiling and feeling giddy, but then it'll have you clutching at your chest. You will hurt and most definitely cry. This story is raw and so real. Bittersweet Always is a book that'll touch your soul on such a deep level and leave a permanent mark on your heart. Ever since Toby was introduced in Suddenly Forbidden I knew he would be a character I would never forget.
I wanted more of him. I desperately needed his story. I was patiently, not so patiently waiting for his and Pippa's book. And now that I've read their story, it's one that'll always hold a special place in my soul. She was everything good. She had the most purest heart. The way she puts others above herself showed just how selfless she is. Her caring way in being there for Toby no matter what, spoke volumes. But sometimes it wasn't enough, and in so it was heartbreaking. Reading how he lived with mental health and how he tried dealing with it was difficult. The demons that live within his head have Toby self-destructing.
Doing things he wouldn't normally do, only to try and find relief. Though the one person who can somewhat quiet the storm living within his head and calm him, is Pippa. Pippa and Toby were two characters that'll put you through the ringer. You will experience the lowest of lows, but also the highest of highs. Their love is unlike any other. They're beautifully imperfect, but their souls are perfectly made to love the other. Pippa and Toby captured my heart and I don't want it back. I will never forget these characters or their story.
They'll forever live in my heart. Oh Ella, Ella, Ella. I thank my lucky stars the day I came across Corrode. Since reading that book you automatically became one of my top favorite authors. And I am so grateful because my life would be incomplete without your words. I can't wait for everything else you write. I'm almost positive those books will also be my favorite just like Bittersweet Always and all your other books before that.
He was really intriguing I just had no idea how much his life would overwhelm the story. If you've read the first book, then you've already read about Toby and Pippa meeting and getting together. The beginning of the book is a bit redundant if you've just finished the first book like I did but it's probably a good review if it's been awhile. I just wanted m 3. I just wanted more of them, more of them being together and more of them falling in love. The drama intensifies at the twenty-five percent mark and even though I knew what was coming, I was shocked at Toby's behavior.

I was shocked at how he treated everyone but especially Pippa. There's a lot of time dealing with Toby's situation. I enjoyed getting his POV but it was hard to read about too. Most people are touched by this issue in some way so it's hard to not be affected. Fortunately, there is hope as Toby works through things and gets help.
I liked that there wasn't an auto-fix for him and Pippa, I just wish I felt their connection more. I'm still deciding if I liked the connection between Toby and Pippa's Dad or if it was a bit weird. I really enjoyed getting more Quinn and Daisy in this book. It was great to see how much they were there still for Toby and Pippa. I thought the epilogue was great Book three, Pretty Venom , is up next.

Pippa and Toby are two forces of nature. One that is true to herself and the other who is not because of his illness. The course of this story is a sweet college romance. Toby is a train wreck waiting to happen. Pippa is a spit fire. There is also a wonderful secondary cast of characters.
Friends who support and champion Pippa and Toby. It makes for a cozy story set in a college atmosphere. A story that will tug on your heartstrings but make you smile in the end. Apr 28, NMmomof4 rated it really liked it Shelves: I had the distinct feeling that I had read this before though. The only thing I can come up with is that we have a lot of overlapping events from the first book, Suddenly Forbidden.
I didn't like that aspect of it tbh. I never found it, so I really do think it was just the first book in the series -- but it was definitely an annoying feeling. O 3 Stars Overall Opinion: Otherwise, I enjoyed these characters. I always like books that have a disordered mc, so this didn't disappoint. I wouldn't say that I was left feeling unfulfilled with the ending, but I definitely wanted more!

Overall, an enjoyable read, but it won't be making its spot on my favorites shelf. Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Pippa and Toby's story. They meet at a college party, and Toby is instantly obsessed with Pippa and pursues her. After some cat and mouse, Pippa gives in and they start a relationship.
Pippa is shocked to find out that Toby is on medication for a mental disorder, and because of her father's struggles with mental illness she is weary about continuing the relationship. There are some big life struggles and changes made, some sad moments, and some sexy times Overall Pace of Story: Good for the most part. I did feel like the ending was rather abrupt though, but I never skimmed.
No, but instalust and strong connection. In the grand scheme of things, they probably do move fast -- but it isn't what I would typically label "instalove". He was a mess, and he definitely behaved badly for a little while -- but I forgave him and was rooting for him in the end. She was caring, tough when she needed to be, and loyal. I teared up a few times, but I never needed any tissues. Yes view spoiler [ They both push away and also pursue the relationship at times.
I'd say the H is the main pursuer of the relationship. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.
