Each chapter takes up a pair of opposites, such as "New Traders try to prove they are right; Rich traders admit when they are wrong.

I bought this book after seeing some of Steve's thoughts online and it came at the perfect time with me beginning to trade my retirement account, I had been trading and doing somewhat well at times but always lost whatever money I made, I knew I was doing it wrong and this book laid out it very well, basically stop loss.
I was giving back all my gains. Steve takes you through some trades that shows you how to implement that and begin building your own system. Its a short book but this is good for someone like me at the time who needed a concise and easy to understand way of looking at it. He leads you into some methodology at the end to get you started on good footing and also leads you in deeper with book recommendations thoughout but honestly I think you can learn to trade quickly with this book and never pick up another one but of course you will.
I am giving this book to a "New Trader" because I want them to not lose their money and give up. I also plan to send this book as gifts to people I know who are starting out because every new trader should read this book, simple as that. I began trading about five years, with a low six figure account, mostly for grins. The majority of my retirement assets were handled by "professionals.

I was subscribing to "Investors Business Daily" for some help. Then came into The "professionals" had lost over HALF of my seven figure retirement account, with their buy and hold and hold and hold plan. I took over my retirement acct. Needing more help, with so much more at stake, I purchased this book. It is fantastic for the beginner. It doesn't tell you WHAT to buy and sell.

It tells you HOW to buy and sell. Specifics on the DO's and psycho. It covers the psychology of trading, risk management and many helpful ideas.
I wish I came across these book earlier in my trading career, I would have cut my learning time and bad experiences by a significant amount. Getting into trading, without reading all these books is waste of time and will get into bad habits which would be hard to overcome. Steve is the most knowledge, yet Generous Trader who as articulated the psychological aspect of the trading in these books. While, I am trading day in and out, my Dad over legal retirement age was so upset over me in trading business because of the risk involved.
I got him these books and God, after reading all of them, he has a different opinion now and thanks to Steve, we discuss the strategies and risk management together which is helping me build a better trading system. I got this book and list of books mentioned below for my Dad, A must read for all age groups, not only if you are trading but also get a feel of what this business is and what aspects of human emotions have to be reigned in to excel in trading New Trader I love the structure of this book: Steve Burns points out huge differences between winners and losers in every area of the market.

So many great rules are offered in this book, but I think my favorite might be Chapter 8's. It is SO true!
Just printing out the title of each chapter and putting it on your desk would greatly benefit every trader I know. Steve, you've done a great job! This is a must read for all levels of traders. Golden nuggets include important concepts like "I always put capital preservation before capital appreciation. As Steve says "most new traders learn the hard way by losing money How to Ensure Profit and Avoid the Risk of Ruin" Steve Burnsdescribes three of the most critical aspects of trading with a "dialogue-style' book between a novice trader and an experienced successful trader.
Psychology - making sure your mindset is correct and in the game with a solid, realistic, and objective plan. Risk Management - the key to it all and ones ability to understand andmanage all aspects of risk control. Methodology - making sure you fit a trading plan to your own unique style while understanding what prior successful traders did as well. Save yourself years of heartache and buy this book and do your homework.

More for trend following rather than buy and hold. Liked the quotes before each chapter begins which gives food for thought for any investors.
