The One King (The Aldar Trilogy Book 1)
Surprisingly good read This book was better than I thought it would be. Lots of action with only a few lulls. Apr 14, Tissy rated it it was ok Shelves: Writing was ok but not captivating which is why I got bored and couldn't continue. This book and its writing just didn't hold the same vibrancy so DNF. Jul 03, Capri rated it it was ok. If you want to read a much less compelling, less interesting version of Sarah J.
All of them, together? Anyway, on top of all this, some of the prose is pretty much stolen from Sarah J. A cold mask, hard-edged and hollow cheeked. I wanted to die too. To take my life and leave this sorry, rutting world for good. And I know this because I have felt that way. At so many points, it felt like the author was telling me to care, telling me that characters experienced hardship, telling me that this was a life-or-death situation.
That, in turn, took away from my immersion in the story. These issues, along with the emulation of Sarah J. Maas, left me unable to take this book seriously. All this being said, if you want a mindless fantasy novel to distract you, involving characters to whom you will not get attached, then this book is perfect for you! I see all your points though. Sounds like a lot of this novel was modeled after Sarah J Maas. Victoria Thank you for writing the review that I wanted to write, with the same comparisons. I noticed the Abraxos and witch name comparisons, too.
But you bot Thank you for writing the review that I wanted to write, with the same comparisons. But you both forgot the worst: And the writing style became more and more SJM-ish as the book went on. Kinda like Hemingway lovers who try to write like Hemingway. I did enjoy the book, but it was like really really well done Sarah J Maas fan fiction. Jul 27, FictionNoChaser rated it it was ok Shelves: Homegirl takes love at first sight to a whole new level Dudes: Holy love quadrangle batman!
Why do authors think caves are an aphrodisiac? My whole experience with Overall Rating: And instead of contributing to a cohesive and interesting plot, it just seemed more like a cruel exercise of trying to keep me engaged with this book. But Nova overdid it and dangled too many bones at me, leaving me with a book that was more a military soap opera than the fantasy adventure I wanted.
This, plus the lack of a cohesive plot, made Kingdom of Exiles a long winded experience I had no where it was going. It was like being mansplained to for pages. All that aside, the most challenging experience of this book was surviving the protagonist, Serena. She experienced no character growth and spent the whole book crying, whining, and passively letting terrible things happen to her.
The romance in this book was non-existent despite the fact that Serena insta-loves every male that she encounters. Unless, the risk of getting rabies from a bat is romantic? Jul 20, Alisha Klapheke rated it it was amazing. I really enjoyed this story! Yes, it had some tropes you see in many fae stories, but it also had fresh takes on some unusual situations. I fell hard for all the characters too. The friendships in this book are remarkable.

We begin with one world and life there for the heroine, It felt like The Scarlet Letter. It was so predictable that she would lose the trial. She had to or there would be no rest of the story. But then there is this insta-love thing that happens with her captor.
A Kingdom of Exiles
If he had done what he did, to me, there's no way I would have forgiven him let alone befriended him. So, this was another predictable transition to get the heroine into the next situation, etc This book felt underdeveloped in many ways. So, this was another predictable transition to get the heroine into the next situation, etc. The various scenes just felt underdeveloped and again predictable without originality. If you're going to reuse a trope, at least make it so we can't guess how it will play out.
Make something about it unpredictable. I'm about halfway through but I won't be finishing it. The foreshadowing dump with the witch was just the end for me. Yes, not only is she the queen, but there's more.
She's also a fae! And the result of the meeting with the witch, now there will be several quests to go get these necessary ingredients which heaven forbid the witch not procure because of Morgan. So now we have to go through this quest.
And you know she will eventually become queen. I need something more original, or at least with unexpected twists. May 13, Emeline rated it it was amazing Shelves: Nova you are a wonderful author!

Indeed, after a plot twist and awful events, Serena finds herself in the S. Indeed, after a plot twist and awful events, Serena finds herself in the fae realm. I really like how fae were described, beautiful with wings and all it reminded me of angels. The rest of the story takes place in a soldier camp where Serena has to learn how to fight in order to survive the trials at the end. This camp is for fae and human training and Serena bonds with few people which becomes her pack. About the romance because yes, it's important for me in a story: P , there is kind of of a romance but one that didn't do it for me and we get why at the end but I have great hopes for the next book.
The waiting for the next book December ? I give 5 beautiful stars for a perfect story and a perfect writing. Feb 13, Esther rated it it was amazing. The writing was flawless. The characters have complex personalities but was so well developed, and OMG! I can't say more because I don't want to spoiler it for you, just until you finish the story or almost finish it in my case that everything it will make sense.

At first I was going to hold out on reading this, because I had a feeling I was going to love it and I'm super impatient when it comes to waiting for sequels.
Nova is the first author that has gotten me just as invested in the characters and the story as Sara J Maas. Serena is a lovable and badass main character, and I ended up loving her squad just as much as her. The pacing of the story is great, and I c At first I was going to hold out on reading this, because I had a feeling I was going to love it and I'm super impatient when it comes to waiting for sequels. That being said, S. Nova has set a great foundation for the series, and I'm so excited to see Serena's story play out.

And then, there is the humorous attraction between Cai and Adrianna which will be interesting to follow. Breathing life into this compelling story are multifaceted and realistic characters like Serena Smith a strong-minded, defiant, reckless teen whose shyness and insecurity is drained away by a magical necklace.
These like the host of other characters fuel the plot with power and complexity that make it a page-turner from beginning to end.
